The research showed that these events and others like them caused a rippling affect throughout the country and the need for designated home offices was born. To try to alleviate traffic congestions, city officials in and around the area asked corporate businesses to have their employees work from home, if possible. The following year in 1996, Atlanta, Georgia hosted the Summer Olympics. In order to reduce power usage and heat related issues caused by transportation in to the more densely populated cites and office buildings, businesses and people, in general were asked to work from home. In 1995 there was a deadly heatwave in the Midwest. Too many years have gone by for me to be able to accurately site the research but I will share a couple of things that I do remember. ![]() ![]() I found it intriguing how advancements in technology coincided with social events, and environmental concerns in a way that not only made it possible for someone to efficiently work from home but it also became necessary. I remember years ago when I was teaching a corporate design class at CSU, Chico we traced the origin and the development of telecommuting and home offices in the US.
